The four firms operate as separate legal entities. Mark Deters is a Retirement Plan Advisor for Sentinel Benefits & Financial Group, a Registered Investment Advisor.  As a fiduciary consultant, Mark spends most of his time educating business owners, Human Resources professionals, and Chief Financial Officers helping them understand the nuances of qualified and non-qualified retirement plans.  These programs include 401(k), 403(b), Profit Sharing, Pension Plans, and Executive Benefits.  Since most employers implement these programs as recruiting and retention vehicles, Mark helps these plan sponsors understand the programs they are currently offering and assists in designing a stronger retirement benefit.  Some of the primary ways Mark supports plans sponsors include:

  • Performance Reviews: By providing an analysis of the investments being offered within the retirement program, the employer can see how the funds are performing, their suitability for the staff, and their fee ratings.
  • Plan Costs:  As retirement plans can have many hidden fees, Mark shows plan sponsors the costs associated with their plan, how their providers are being paid, and how to adjust/reduce these fees.
  • Fiduciary Compliance: Since the plan sponsor and the trustees have a fiduciary responsibility to run the retirement program in the best interests of the participants, Mark helps relieve some of the fiduciary responsibilities borne by the plan sponsor.
  • Plan Design: Since many retirement plans experience compliance issues and, therefore, cannot achieve the original goals of the program, Mark is also a Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) and consults the sponsor on how to rebuild the plan’s structure to maximize the benefit for the participants.
  • Participant Success: By learning more about the features & benefits offered within the firm’s retirement program, participants generally engage more in the program and increase their chances of achieving financial success in their golden years.

As an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF), Mark’s key role is to act in the best interests of the plan participants and their beneficiaries first and all other parties second.  In doing so, we can help ensure the plan participants, trustees, and supporting staff are protected and on the right track to retire with confidence.  “Little and often makes a lot”.  Please let us know how we can help!
